[ODE] tutorial or example on collision?

I'm not experienced in using collision detection stuff, but that's what I 
have to do for my project. I'm going to use ODE's collision detection 
system. I know that the user manual documents all the functions, but I was 
wondering whether I could get some example code or tutorial?

Also, does ODE use octree?
