Ok, I decided to go for Streeter's code from "Medieval Playground".
I yanked the joints config from his ODEHuman, and wrote a
plib render backend for it.
I'm pretty happy with the results:

Right now, I don't have drawstuff code for this. If I can find
the spare time, I may port it to drawstuff, and put it in the
ODE test suite.
