[ODE] Preferred ODE platform

Dear All,

I'm just about to buy a computer and one of it's main jobs is going  
to be running lots of ODE simulations. It'll be running linux but  
what is the recommended processor? The various AMD offerings look  
faster but Intel has always had very good floating point speed and  
Intel's compiler can be a lot quicker than gcc on Intel processors.  
So has anyone compared ODE using gcc on AMD with Intel compiler/ 
processor combination?
