[ODE] combining bodies

Hello.
What is best way to combine several bodies to work as single body?
Of course ideal solution would be fixed joint but docs say that it is for 
testing only and it has some jitter etc between bodies.
I guess The Way would be creating whole new body that has multiple geoms 
and masses from original bodies translated and summed somehow. But how 
would this work in practice?
