That's only a problem if someone is shipping ODE as a DLL, and then the 
user downloads a newer ODE DLL and replaces the old DLL. I don't think 
that's likely to happen in practice, and I'm not even sure that ODE has 
ever made any API stability guarantees.

Thus, I'd second your motion to add ODE_CALLBACK defines in front of 
prototypes for callbacks, and #defining them appropriately on Windows.
