You can subscribe to any thread/subforum and get daily/weekly/monthly/instant updates in your email account. Even though i don't use this mailing list too much, i have discussed the use of a forum vs. mailing list for the discussions of our simulator (that uses ODE), and we found that a forum is a lot better because of those reasons: you can browse the posts easier.
