[ODE] Number of iterations in Quickstep

Hi,

from the Docs of the nice NovodeX: 
"[...]The solver iteration count defaults to 4 [...] We never used a setting
higher than 30. [...]"

So, why is ODE's Quickstep using a default of 20 iteratons? When I try to
use a very small iteration count (4), Quickstep does not produce usable
results...

Is the used iterative solver algorithm different? And would it be possible
to use a simular system in ODE?

Also: Any ideas for implementing an 'early-exit' condition for Quickstep, if
for example, the solution is exact enough?
