In the ODE manual, under "2. How to install and use ODE," you'll find:


Steps 2-4 (alternate): If you're on windows and using MSVC, you may not 
have the microsoft compiler in your command line path, or may encounter 
other problems using make. It may be easier to use these instructions 
from the wiki FAQ.
