I do not know the answer to your question, and I suspect that the reason
you got no answer is that nobody else knows either.  It is very difficult
to answer questions about strange behavior when we have only written
descriptions to work with.

However, when I thought I had a bug in ODE, I created a very simple
program using the "drawstuff" library (like the box stack test), which
demonstrated the bug.  I posted the source code to the list, Russ examined
the problem and fixed it.  I suggest doing the same for your problem.
