[ODE] Space Partition

Hello everyone,
   could someone list some references on 3D Space Partition? I'm involved in
a project where we want to apply some principles of space partition theory
in our physics simulations. We are using ODE to simulate fracturable
objects, I mean, simulate objects apparently solid, but breakable when a
certain force is applied. However, most of the ideas are of our own, so we´d
like to compare our results with classical ones.
