Agreed. The sooner the better.
However: I think the idea was to at least get to the point where SVN head
was compiling cleanly on all platforms that list members were providing
feedback for, so that the first round of issue reports weren't "It won't
compile on X". A release candidate by definition should be fairly close
to an official release in quality, and failing to build doesn't meet the
minimum quality level, IMHO. Verifying that all or most of the demo
programs run without issue on all supported platforms is probably a useful
benchmark to indicate that the code is approaching release-quality. I
suspect we're just about there.
