Please, take a look at these forums: http://forum.rscnet.org/forumdisplay.php?f=577 .A summary of interesting features of forums:
-It's a lot easier to browse the threads, which can be sorted into their own subforums (instead of having 2 or more mailing lists).
-Code can be easily distinguised from normal text.
-You can easily read the whole conversation without having to open several windows or having to go clicking one mail after another (this depends on the mail client, but that's how mine works).
-You can attach images and see the thumbnails (not really a big use in this mailing list, but interesting nonetheless).
-You can divide, merge, move threads easily (which is not possible in a mailing list, since you already received all the original mails).
-You can edit existing posts in order to change something that you mistyped.
-You can put 'sticky' threads with the most important info (such as "RTFM before asking here, please" or similar ;).
-You can decide to browse only some subforums if you want to.
-You can be notified of new threads, updates to existing ones, etc. via mail, or...:
-You can take a quick look at the threads/subforums icons in order to see which ones have been updated since your last visit, and which not, instead of receiving one mail for every reply.

IMO There's a lot of advantages of this type of forums as opposed to the traditional mailing list or the existing web-interface (which i don't like at all, since it has no advantages over the average mail client). I don't like web-things (such as webmail, etc...), but the type of forums i describe have no local-program correspondent.

If there can be a hybrid solution, i vote for it. It'll make life easier to many of us, while the rest of people can keep receiving the mails the usual way.
