Well.. I hope I'm not the only person here who prefers mailing-lists to 
forums :)

For example I find it useful to keep all the messages on the disk so I 
can quickly browse through them. Think about people with a slow (modem?)
internet connection.

And if someone wants to download the archive - the monthly archive files 
seem to work.
