[ODE] clear space?

is there a way with ODE
to say "load these geoms as temporary geoms, while load these geoms as 
permanent geoms"

then when i want to clear a space, it clears the temporary geoms?

because i have a number of spaces, some with permanet shapes(that dont move)
while i have some stuff that moves around, and moves from space to space....

ideas on a simple solution?
