Without wanting to provoke a flamewar I have to say that I find the way
announcements such as this are commented by some posters disappointing.
I for one am happy that people of other Physics SDKs think that ODE and
its developers/users are important enough to inform them of
alternatives. This shows that ODE is not considered a pet project, and
that this ML is known to be a place of people interested in physics and
using it for important projects.
Furthermore it is always good to know whats going on in the world, and
what tools are available for the job. While I do not consider novodex
right now as alternative, it seems to me that they do have some features
which ODE does not yet have (better friction, 3ds/milkshape exporters,
mesh-mesh collisions) and which might be important for some people on
this list (or might convince some people to contribute such things to ODE).
So instead of bashing them for advertising on this ML we maybe should
check out the product, learn from it and get better by it ...
just my 2c
