[ODE] New joint?

A slider with an extra stop would be very nice for springs/dampers in my
car sims, maybe with a ball joint at each end as well. What I currently use
is a slider with a ball joint at each end (at each body), and setting
both the high and low stops to 0, then adjusting CFM and ERP to
correctly model spring and shock absorber/damper. However, I want the
travel to be limited as well, so perfect would be a fairly hard low and
high stop, and then sort of a "center" stop to act as spring/damper. I
realize I could do the center stop manually with dParamFMax, but then it
would lag behind one timestep, i.e. a car jumping and landing hard
(bottoming suspension in 1 frame) would only recieve spring and damper
forces the next frame... right?

I also relize this is MY job to implement, but I'm confused... I've read
the PDF about implementing joints, but didn't get much wiser. So if
someone please could kick me in the right direction? Or provide me with
some sample code, or point me to where the slider and ball joint source
code is in the ODE sources, that would be a great start.
