So you're down on the idea of adding more conditionality to
ODE?  You could have said so a few days ago and presumably
saved a bit a work...

I'm dead keen on having more features turn-offable; in the typical
embedded uses of ODE I expect most users to know exactly which
paths and features they're going to use, and the dead paths are
just binary dead-weight.
