Several rather important reasons:
* You get multi-platform library (that's not Win vs Unix, that's PS vs PS2
vs X-box etc. :))
* You get technical support, docs etc.
* You get integration with DCC tools (previewers/exporters for 3dsMax, Maya
etc.)
* You get API that's much more oriented to the games - its comes with
pre-built ragdools, vehicle setups, mesh colliders (ok, these are in ODE now
:)) etc.
* Finally, you get a name that can be used for marketing - games already
know Havok, Karma etc. Who knows ODE? :)
